Wireless Application Protocol
  • WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a secure specification that allows users to access information instantly via a hand-held wireless device such as mobile/cell phones, PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant), and pagers. WAP supports most wireless networks which include CDMA, GSM, and TDMA such to name a few.
  • WAP is supported by all operating systems. Ones specifically engineered for hand-held devices are PalmOS, Windows CE, OS/9 and JavaOS.
  • This wireless protocol accesses the Internet via micro browsers — browsers with small file sizes that can accommodate the low memory constraints of hand-held devices and the low bandwidth constraints of a wireless hand-held network. Although WAP supports HTML and XML, the WML language is specifically devised for small screens and one-hand navigation without a keyboard. WML is scalable from two-line text displays up through graphic screens found on items such as smart phones and communicators. WAP also supports WMLScript (Wireless Markup Language). It is similar to JavaScript but does not contain many of the unnecessary functions that place demands for more memory and power.
The Oasis Software Solution
Oasis Software customized a "Wireless Internet Banking" Application Solution for Franklin National Bank (FNB), which provides them a distinct competitive advantage. Oasis Software partnered with the bank's ad agency to build a completely new public website with private, intranet accessible, database driven features. The intranet modules were to maintain the site content based on Oasis Software's technology. We designed and constructed a new web-based decision tree module to help bank customers choose CD's, insurance products etc. We then integrated with the software from the Franklin National Bank's vendor, Equifax, to maintain a consistent user presentation and respective navigation. This allowed the FNB customers to bank with the use of an Internet enabled electronic devise, such as a web-cellular phone. Now their clients can view their account information from virtually anywhere, anytime. They are the first financial institution in the Middle Tennessee area to offer banking services though wireless connections.
